Words are language's building materials.The present paper,basing itself on the theory of linguistics,so-cia-linguistics and psycho-linguistics,attempts to identify what American words reflect American cultural patterns and its value view.Such English knowledge can help learners in acquiring and remembering the meaning of words,in using the words,to contribute to the development of their communicative competence,and to provide context in vo-cabulary learning.
