Higher education started early in America. The theories and functions of student affairs in America are relatively perfect. This article aims at analyzing the theoretical foundation, functions and characteristics of student affairs in American institutions of higher education, learning from their strongpoints to offset our weaknesses, and providing a reference for the reform of student affairs in China's colleges and universities.
