The Purpose of Western Missionaries to Mongolia

蒙古汗国时期,受罗马教皇或法国国王的派遣,基督教教士普兰诺·嘉宾尼、安德鲁·隆居曼和威廉·鲁不鲁乞曾经分别率领西方使团出使蒙古。他们出使的使命和欲达到之目的不尽相同,但由于对蒙古汗廷情况缺乏了解,均是无功而返。尽管如此,还是取得了一定的效果,其所写行记更是研究蒙古史、中西交通史及中亚民族史等方面的重要史料。

During the Mongolian Empire Christian Churchmen Piano Kaplan, Andrew Longjuman, William rubruck had led the west diplomatic mission to Mongolia respectively by the Pope or the France king's mission. The tasks and purposes they wanted to achieve are not the same. Due to a lack of understanding the situation of Mongol Court,they returned without accomplishing anything. However, they still had some effect. The travel records written by them are more important historical data for studying Mongolian History, communication history of China and the West,Central Asi a Ethnic History.
