唐代的科场纪律意识颇为淡薄

About the Imperial Examination Discipline in the Tang Dynasty

唐代科举考试的制度较为粗略,其突出表现是:许多在后世看来属严重违规的行为在当时被视为正常,较多的状元是靠不正当竞争夺魁的,对于特别严重的违规事件亦处理颇轻,因科场案被处死的只是极个别人。这说明科举考试在唐人心目中的地位远没有后世那么高,因此唐人对科举考试的公证性、严肃性期望值较低。

The Imperial Examination discipline in the Tang Dynasty is not strict at all. A lot of crimes committed in exam nowadays were considered normally then. Many Number One Scholars were appointed in illegal way. The government is lenient to those who severely cheated in the exams, and few people were sentenced to death for it at that time. That is to say, the Imperial Examination in the Tang Dynasty did not play an important role as that in the following dynasties. So the people in the Tang Dynasty paid less attention to the justice and solemnity of the Imperial Examination.
