“文人无行”是文学发展史中普遍存在的现象 ,它的产生与文学自身“标举兴会、发引性灵”的特性、历代文人社会地位普遍低下以及少数无行文人发迹所引起的不良社会风气等均有一定的联系 ,刘勰根据文人品格普遍缺失的历史状况和针对当时形势更加突出的现实 ,提出了自己的一套人才标准 ,即“贵器用兼文采”、“达于政事”、“文武之术 ,左右惟宜”、“藏器”“待时”“发挥事业”、“穷则独善以垂文 ,达则奉时以骋绩” ,是对儒家传统行为规范的继承和延伸 ,具有鲜明的时代特色和超常的识见 ,对后世产生了深远的影响。

A literary man of no conduct' was a universal natural phenomenon in history of literature. It's produced connected with complicated reasons, for instance, specialty of literature, social class o f literary man, current tendencies in society, etc. LiuXie put forward his own s eries of views of human talent on the basis of historic situation and position a t that time. It included attaching importance to basic diathesis and literary gr ace contemporary, possessing capacity of government official, being well-educat ed and trained in military exercises, being accomplished in concealing oneself a nd watching one's time, etc. Views of Liu Xie's inherited and extended traditi onal ideas of the Confucians were of momentous current significance and far-rea ching historical significance.
