Web-Based Generalized Paperless Assignments System: Design and Application

摘要 本文主要介绍了网络化通用无纸化作业系统的设计思想及构造一个功能强、简便实用的完整系统。该系统采用通过网络下载题库,脱机完成答题,利用电子邮件回传答卷,既充分利用了网络传输快捷、方便的特点,同时又节省了上网时间,减轻了网络负荷。文章并给出了部分实现方法。 Continued assessment is one of the most important elements in the teaching process. Nowadays, most online teaching platforms offer a paperless assignments system. The system discussed in this paper has been used in Shenzhen Radio and Television University for more than one year and the results have been impressive. In the process of developing this system, we had the following objectives in mind: (1) to cater for the demands of autonomous learning and teaching; (2) to act as Software Development Kits (SDKs); (3) to realize the goal of fairness in assessment; and (4) to minimize the time for network connections and simplify the system operation procedures. There are five sub-systems: question items development, assignment distribution, assignment analysis, items management, and marking and record keeping. Making extensive use of existing computer technologies, the assignments system has taken the characteristics and requirements of radio and television universities well into consideration. The bandwidth requirements are low and the assignments are generalized for a number of different courses. Students can even participate in self-assessment. As this system is to be generally applied to the teaching of various courses, a large number of different items are needed for the items bank, and hence initial investment can be enormous. The promotion of this system in courses with low enrolments might thus be difficult. In addition, in the items bank, questions involving subjective judgment are forsaken for objective questions, and thus the development of students' logical thinking and creativity might be hampered. We suggest that more detailed explanations and related information be provided in the suggested answers. Artificial intelligence (AI) can also be employed for the realization of intelligent script marking of questions involving subjective judgment.
