《穆天子传》是一部颇为珍贵的历史地理文献与优秀的文学作品。清代以前的学者主要对其进行了文字校注和诠释工作 ,由于学术界对其价值尚未引起足够的重视 ,有关《穆传》的研究工作尚未全面展开。民国时期 ,《穆传》研究工作进入一个新阶段 ,一些学者的研究方法已较为科学 ,在史料分析与理论概括方面均有所建树 ,但由于受中国文化西来说的影响 ,有的学者对《穆传》的研究也存在诸多方法和理论上的缺陷。建国后 ,《穆传》研究工作全面走向深入 ,研究视野日渐开阔 ,多学科交叉的综合研究与比较研究方法的运用 ,使得《穆传》

Biography about King Mu is a precious work on historical geography and an excellent literary writing. The scholars before the Qing dynasty make great contributions to the revision of the words and the annotating of the sense. As its value has not attracted great attention in the literary world, the research work did not outspread roundly. During the period of the Republic of China, research work began to enter a new stage. Some researchers applied quite scientific research work and achieved certain progress in analysis of historical materials and recapitulation of theory but there remained some defects in method and in theory made and held by some scholars in the research of Biography about King Mu, because of the influence of the doctrine of Chinese culture coming from the Western World. After the foundation of New China, research work in this area has gone deep all-roundly. The fields of the vision becomes wider gradually. The cross subject comprehensive and comparative methods are used and make the study of Biography about King Mu developed with a pluralistic color.
