19世纪大工业文明的发展,科学技术的进步,不仅改变了人们的生活习惯,也改变了人们的思想和思维方式.人与人之间的关系愈加冷漠.在高度发达的物质文明面前,人究竟为何物?人的心灵归宿又在哪里?探讨人类的精神家园,就成为现代主义文学的共同主题.
The development of the C19th industrial civilization and the progress of science and technology have changed not only people's living habits but also their thoughts and way of thinking. People get more and more indifferent to each other. Confronting the highly developed material civilization, people couldn't help wondering: what on earth human beings are and where human beings' spiritual Eden is. Thus it becomes a central motif of modernism literature to probe into human beings' spiritual Eden.
