《外出度冬》是1995年诺贝尔文学奖得主谢默斯·希尼的第三本诗集,也是70年代诗人文学创作颠峰10年的发端之作。在这本诗集中,诗人通过对爱尔兰语言和地形的历史挖掘和勘探,找到了他对爱尔兰文化和政治表达的言说方式,从而使诗人的个人经验洞开为广阔的民族经验,实践了他的"诗是文化的自我回归"的诗学观点。

Wintering Out is the third collection of Seamus Heaney, the Nobel Prize winner in 1995. It marks the beginning of the poet's mature period in 1970s. By the exploration of the old Irish language and the means of the topography, Seamus Heaney succeeded in seeking the way of uttering the whole Irish culture and politics. His poetry broadens his persoal experience into national experience and meanwhile fulfils his own view of poetry as the restoration of the culture to itself.
