开发空间复合理论和关联理论的整合性研究课题能使两论得到相互阐释和相互证明。两论都强调言语编码所遵守的经济原则和概念复合在即时意义构建中的作用。在共享相似的语言哲学观点的基础上 ,两论可进行互补 :一方面 ,关联理论需要引进空间复合理论的分析手段 ,同时它还应研究讲话人的语用技巧。另一方 ,空间复合理论应突破数个显性空间复合的模型 ,从更广的视角 ,将语用推理视为明示信息与语境假设的复合 。

The purpose of this paper is to make integrative analyses, which aim at revealing the theoretical convergences and cross-fertilization between space blending theory and relevance theory. We first show that both space blending theory and relevance theory have highlighted the economical principle of linguistic encoding and the role played by conceptual blending in the on-line meaning construction. Based on their identical linguistic philosophies, we take the matter further, and argue that relevance theory should draw on the inferential model of space blending theory and also study the communicative strategies of speakers, and that space blending theory should extend its horizon by moving from the explicit space-blending model to the implicit space-blending model. In addition, we point out that space blending theory should incorporate the relevance principle into the explanation of the construction of emergent structure in the blended space.
