The Study of Critics' Attitudes toward John Donne

Different from the traditional analyses of writer and text, the thesis aims to study the attitudes of critics toward John Donne in order to search the reason for his oscillating reputation. After examining the critics' attitudes from the 17th century to the 20th century, the thesis points out that the criteria of criticism is not fixed one. It is any, it is the spirit of time that decides the criteria of criticism.So the criteria will change often and thus a writer's reputation will change accordingly.
