based en the characteristics of roof of No. 9 seam, namely, liability to expansion upon weathering and difficulty with roof control, Jinggezhuang Mine of Kailuan Mining Administration has adopted upward slicing method instead of the original top slicing method. Several years experience has shown that the method is feasible and economically rational.This paper describes in details the features of this method and the technical measures taken in mining process. They are,l. the time interval of coal extraction between the upper and lower slices should not be less than l year, 2. the cutting height of the drum shearer shall be reduced from 1.6 to 1.3m( 3. coal rib infusion is conducted in order to increase the cohesive force cf the fractured and soft coal rib.
