trails of using π-beams in conjunction with hydraulic single props to support the roof under steel or plastic wire-mesh in Gushuyuan Colliery, Jincheng Mining Administration achieved good results. Practical experience showed that use of steel or plastic wire-mesh as an artificial roof could solve the problem of its sagging in the unsupported area. The average monthly output of a coal face increased by 132% as compared with coal face using friction hinged roof beams. The efficiency of crew increased by 103.8%. The rate of injury reduced by 71.1%. It increased the profit by over 8.76 million Yuan RMB in one year. The paper describes the face equipped with π-beams, the mining technology and techno-economic benefits.
