the technique of shaft raising started from using conventional drill and blast method to using raise borer. A small diameter, 0217 mm, pilot hole is drilled by a raise borer downward. It is reamed upward to 1 m diameter. Then drill and blast method is used to enlarge the hole to the specified cross-section. When the finished diameter is not more than 2m, sometimes, it is enlarged by borer in one pass to the required diameter. Raise-boring embodies fast excavation. The monthly advance of finished shaft is 81 m. As compared with conventional method, the cost reduces by ahout 40%, Labour intensity is much less. It is a promising method.
