Yan Fu and His Folk Belief

近年来学界对严复的宗教思想多有研究,但集中于解读严复的"宗教观"与"宗教起源观",忽视了严复的民间信仰活动。通过梳理严复的民间信仰活动不难发现,严复的宗教观与其民间信仰活动实际上是有区别的,严复参与民间信仰活动不仅与自身的传统文化情怀、年龄的增长、生活的苦难等内因有关,也与民间信仰本身的实用功利性、宗族性以及根植于传统文化等外因有关;同时,严复对民间信仰的态度是中庸的。

Yan Fu was an outstanding reform thinker in modern times. His religious thought is worth studying as an important part of his ideological system. Recent studies of Yan Fu’s religious thought focused on his religious view or original religious view, yet ignoring his folk belief. By analyzing Yan Fu’s folk belief activities, it is not difficult to find that there is actually a difference between his religious views and his folk belief activities. His folk belief activities were not only related to his own traditional cultural feelings, his aging, his tough experience, but also to his folk belief characterized by the utilitarian and the patriarchal, rooted in traditional culture. He held the attitude of the mean to the folk belief.
