将濒临失传困境的西北"花儿"纳入普通高校学科专业和公共艺术教学及研究,是保护传承非物质文化遗产名录的重要途径和手段,因此,规划编写适应宁夏高校学科专业和公共艺术教学与研究的教材显得尤为重要。《西北花儿音乐概论》正是基于上述因素考虑,拟以音乐分析学和音乐人类学的方法为主,就整体上对花儿文学性和音乐性特质进行较为全面的鉴赏分析,同时兼以音乐文化学和音乐社会学的视角对花儿的保护传承和创新发展做必要阐述,从而体现出花儿的艺术性欣赏、文化性普及和社会性传承的特殊功用,为区域高校学科专业和公共艺术教育发展乃至公民综合素质的提升做有益的尝试。
