20世纪 5 0年代在英国兴起的文化研究 ,以当下大众文化为研究对象 ,呈现流派纷呈的发展格局。世纪之交 ,中国的文化研究由对异域文化研究理论的介绍逐渐向纵深透视 ,厚重的学术论著不断出现。大众文化起源及早期流变的研究 ,使文化史研究多了一个学术增长点 ,也使其领域进入文化史研究视野 ,导致文化史研究在根本性的指导思想与学术观点上产生变革。

Cultural study, which rose in the 1950s in Britain, focus on the contemporary public culture and develop in varied directions. At the turn of the century, Chinese cultural study change from introducing foreign cultural study theories into penetrating deeper into this field with many scholarly works coming out. The study on the origin and evolution of the public culture adds another growth point to the cultural history study, and leads to the reforms in the fundamental guiding thoughts and academic views in the cultural history study.
