As an important novel of the famous English writer Graham Greene during his transitional period, Brighton Rock has been interpreted all these years as the author's religious exploration of human nature. However, this paper suggests that the novel focuses more on humanistic issues than on religion. The author reveals the plight of modern man in an unjust world through the depiction of a criminal's vicious and miserable life. In this way the author shows us his deep concern about life, religion and woman.
