In the book 《华夷变态》 , there's a letter that Zheng Cheng- gong wrote to Tokugawa Shogunate in 1658. The book does not mention the man who delivered the letter . Recently some scholars thought that it was Gui Wu (桂悟) and Ru Xi (如昔) who were Buddhism monks that delivered the letter . This is a misunderstanding . It is because there is printing mistakes in the book 《华夷变态》 . Gui Wu (桂悟) , who was dispatched to the Ming Dynasty as an envoy of Japan , has a full name 也庵桂悟. His mission was to carry on the validating trade with emperor Wu Zong's administration . The original sentence is “敢望僧桂悟如昔重来”, which means 'I long for the envoys such as monk Gui Wu coming to our country again', it also expresses Zheng Cheng - gong' s desire for exchanges between China and Japan. It was not monk Gui Wu and Ru Xi that delivered the letter.
