Towards Ye Dehui's Achievement in Historical Philology

叶德辉是清末民初的一位版本目录学家,他在历史文献学方面取得较大成就,主要体现在:广搜珍本秘籍,尤其留意明清善本;辩证辑佚起源,辑佚众多古籍;辨析校勘方法,参众书以考异同;探究版本类名起源,讲究辨别善本之道;揄扬私家目录,订补前人阙误;重视刻书事业,并亲自刊刻古籍。

As a modern scholar in editions and catalogs, Ye Dehui acquired great achievement, which consisted in as following: entensive collecting books, especially these good editions of the Ming and the Qing Dynasties; identifying the origin of the collection of the missing texts and collecting a number of missing texts ; analysing the methods of collation; exploring the origin of different kinds of editons and making out how to discern the good editon; commenting the private catalogs and correcting the others' mistakes; recognizing the values of bookprinting and printing a number of ancient books himself.
