From the view of systems theory, opera is composed of a series of dramatic plots which are expressed by music and performed on the stage and include language. It is one kind of drama. Music penetrates into opera from start to finish and lies in dominant status and plays a leading role in opera. Opera is constituted of three essential factors which are the music, the stage and the language. These three elements, which are combined and arranged according to some proportions and rules, form the structure of opera. Domination and the leading role of music describe the quality and the function of opera. Penetration into the opera from start to finish of music expresses the structure of opera. The reconstruction of opera's definition is significant to its theoretical research, operatic creation and operatic performance.
