By analyzing the characteristics of the application of fiber and copper cable in the network and comparing the advantages and disadvantages between fiber and copper cable, this paper points out that fiber has many incomparable advantages over copper cable such as resisting electro-magnetic interference, long transmission distance and good expansion ability of the bandwidth. With the continuous requests to the network communication and the unceasing development of the fiber technology, fiber will surely replace the copper cable and become the main medium of structured cabling of network.
