MPEG4 is one of the standards of MPEG and a solution which is workd out for multimedia communications by ISO. This paper deseribes the background of MPEG4's appearance, the basic structure of MPEG4, the main difference between MPEG4 and MPEG1/2, the key technology of MPEG4, forecasts and foreground of its application.
