卡西尔学说中“symbol”一词究竟该理解为“符号”还是“象征”,国内学者一直存在争议。从卡西尔哲学的总体看,他的学说应该是“符号形式哲学”而非“象征形式哲学”,但在其谈论艺术时,很多情况下,“symbol”的意思是“象征”。

Sign' or 'Aniconic'? There have been controversies among scholars in the country as to the true denotation of the word symbol' in Cassier's theory. Taken as a whole, Cassirer' s philosophy should be regarded as the 'philosophy of signal forms' rather than the 'philosophy of aniconic forms. ' When it comes to art, however, more often than not, his symbol' refers to aniconic.
