On the situational irony and the image irony in contemporary Chinese fictions

情境反讽与意象反讽是中国当代小说反讽艺术的主要表现形式。情境反讽通常具有现实性、历史性、虚拟性和异常性四种表现形态,对小说情节结构的设置、人物性格的塑造和主题思想的凸显起着重要作用。意象反讽主要是通过意象象征体与象征意旨之间悖逆乖离的独特结合方式体现出浓郁的反讽意味。

The situational irony and the image irony are the major artistic forms of irony in contemporary Chinese fiction. The situational irony is generally discernible from the following four manifestations: realistic, historic, fictitious and abnormal. The situational irony usually plays an important role in arranging plots, portraying characters and highlighting the themes of literary works. The image irony mainly incarnates ironic significance through the unique preposterous combination between symbolic form and symbolic intension of the image.
