Su Buqing's Ideas on Higher Education

杰出的教育家苏步青教授从教 70余年 ,任副校长、校长 15年 ,形成了丰富的高等教育思想 ,主要有 :大学自主办学的观点 ;要办一流大学的观点 ;教导学生独立思考和创造的观点 ;坚持教学与科研相结合的观点 ;正确处理基础理论和应用科学研究关系的观点 ;鼓励学生一代超过一代的观点等 ,为我们留下了宝贵的精神遗产。

Professor Su Buqing was a distinguished educationist, who had devoted to the cause of the higher eduction for over seventy years and accumulated a lot of practical experience in his lifetime. He summed up his ideas on higher education during the fifteen yeas when he worked successively as deputy president and president of Fudan University. His main ideas are as follows:to teach students to think and create independently; to insist on the combination of teaching and reseach; to deal correctly with the relationship between fundamental reseach and applied scientific reseach ; to encourage students to excel the older generation. In this article the author will briefly discuss Professor Su's ideas on higher education as mentioned above.
