Susceptibility of Thirty-one species of Mosquitoes to Romanomermis yunanensis

31种蚊虫人工感染豫南罗索线虫的实验结果表明,受试的库蚊亚科5属20种蚊虫对豫南罗索线虫均敏感。与食蚊罗索线虫相比,豫南罗索线虫对埃及伊蚊、白纹伊蚊、背点伊蚊、赛尔伊蚊、环跗库蚊和哥伦比亚骚蚊的感染力较食蚊罗索线虫为强,显示豫南罗索线虫是一种侵袭力很强的嗜库蚊线虫。

A new species of Mer-mithidae was found parasitizing the lar-vae of Culex tritaeniorhynchus and Cu-Iex fatigans in Henan. China and thennamed Romanomermis yunanensis. Thirty-one species of Mosquitoes in-volving six genera have been tested forsusceptibility to R. yunanensis and Culi-cinae mosquito have consistently beenhighly susceptible. At a 1:5 ratio ofmosquito larvae to nematode juveniles,the parasitisms of Aedes aegypti, Ae.albopictus, Culex fatigans, Culex tritae-niorhynchus, Anopheles sinensts, Psoro-phora columbiae and Culesta inornatawere 98.2%, 98.5%, 98.6%, 97.1%, 0%, 98.8%,and 99.0% respectively. R. yunanensis pre-sented a phenomenon of retarteddevelopment in Anopheles maculatus,which remained at the parasitic stage bothin the larvae and pupa of An.maculatus.The parasitism of An. dirus was 89.7%, butmost (88.8%) parasitizing mermithidsunderwent melanization and died. The comparative susceptibility ofsome North American mosquitoes to R.yunanesis and R. culicivorax at a 1:5 in-fective ratio showed that both percen-tage infection and intensity of infectionstatistically supported the generalizationthat, under laboratory conditions, R.yunanesis is a more vigorous and aggres-sive parasite of Culicinae.
