举"字溯源与举族史考

The origin of the word ju and tentual research the Ju clan

古文中有"举"字,其构形像用二手向上举子状,"举"多用作族名。殷卜辞反映出举族与商王室同姓,常受商王之命从事农稼、田猎、征伐活动。武王克商后,周对殷遗民分而治之,举族也被迫迁徒到其他诸侯国。至西周中期,举族与周及其他族融合,遂湮没于历史的记忆中。

There was the word ju in the ancient style prose in the Yin-Zhou Dynasty. It's form looked as if something was held up by two hands.The word ju was used as the name of clan for many cases.The oracle inscriptions of the Yin Dynasty on tortoise shells or animal bones reflected that the Ju clan and Shang royal family used the same family name. The people of the Ju clan were ordered to work,hunt and go on a punetive expedition. After King Wu captured Shang,Zhou separated and ruled the survivors of the great upheaval. Ju clan was forced to move away to other feudal counties. In the middle of the West-Zhou Dynasty,the Ju clan mixed together with other clans,and then fell into oblivion in the memory of the history.
