The significance of water consumption research is emphasized.The concept of tree water consumption is defined, and the difference of actual water consumption and potential water consumption and their research conditions are discussed. Implications of water consumption and water use are compared. A review of water consumption research methods both for tree and forest with a introduction of the main water consumption measuring methods and their apply conditions are put fowrd.
