The characteristics and functions of non-linguistic communication

指出言语行为和非言语行为的关系及非言语行为的特点,并从四个方面即:体姿语、目光语行为、面部表情和体距行为来分析非言语交际行为的表现形式和作用,说明在跨文化交际中正确运用非言语行为具有十分重要的作用,在交流过程中要充分考虑到某些非言语手段的非普遍性及其独特的民族性和地区性,以避免造成误解。

In the paper,the author points out the relationship between linguistic communication and non-linguistic communication and discusses the characteristics of non-linguistic communication.It analyses the different forms and functions of non-linguistic communication from four aspects:kinesics,visual behaviour,facial expression and proxemics to illustrate the great importance of applying properly the non-linguistic behaviour in cross-cultural communication.In the meantime,in cross-cultural communication,in order to avoid communicative misunderstanding,people should take into account the fact that some non-linguistic behaviours are not so common and have their own cultural uniqueness.
