This paper analyzes the major characteristics of urban morphology in nowadays America and the main reasons for this. The mass suburbanization phenomenon after the Would War II and the decline of central cities in the postindustrial era are discussed. Attention is also paid to the structural influence of car and infrastructure development, the role of governmental involvement in urban construction, and the theories and practice deal with urban reality problems.
