Thirty Years of Research on International L2-Private Speech

私语是社会文化理论的核心概念之一。本文首先从研究主题和研究方法两大方面回顾和梳理国际二语私语研究三十多年来的成果,结果发现,研究主题主要包括私语的功能、语言和影响因素;研究方法有个人叙事法、民族法、实验法和问卷调查法等。具体来讲,私语功能包括认知和元认知、演练内化、社会和情感功能;私语语言有母语、二语或母语二语同时使用;私语产出受到二语水平、任务特征、文化背景等因素影响。文章最后从动态发展研究、多模态研究、影响因素拓展、二语教学作用等方面探讨私语的发展趋势。

Private speech is one of the core concepts of Sociocultural Theory.Firstly,this paper reviews over 30 years’research fin-dings in the field of international L2-private speech from research themes and research methods.It is found that research themesmainly include the functions of private speech,languages of private speech and influencing factors;research methods include per-sonal narrative,ethnography,experiment and questionnaire.Specifically,private speech can serve cognitive,metacognitive func-tions,the functions of rehearsal and internalization,social and emotional functions;It can be in the form of first language,se-cond language or both;Private speech is influenced by second language proficiency,task and cultural background,etc.Lastly,the development trends of private speech are discussed from dynamic development study,multimodal study,the expansion of in-fluencing factors,and the role of second language teaching.
