变译之伦理辩

The Ethics of Translation Variation:A Tentative Examination

自变译论提出以来,翻译变译观给传统翻译研究带来新的视角与挑战。本文依据'变译'的3方面阐释,即由译者来变、因读者而变、对原作施变,结合中西译学相关研究成果,借鉴道德哲学相关理论,对变译论从纯理层面进行伦理审视。本文认为,变译论鼓励译者主体性,重视发掘卓越译者的卓越表现,呈现译者生活的意义,体现出翻译活动对人的价值。作为强调促进文化间交流的理论,变译论具有成为译者职业伦理(规范)理论来源的潜力。如放置在更为广阔的思维框架下,变译论的价值仍有深入发掘的空间。

Translation Variation Theory has introduced new perspectives and challenges to translation studies since its appearance in 1998.This paper,drawing on relevant research findings in Western and domestic translation studies and basic concepts of moralphilosophy,is intended to give a theoretical examination of the ethics of translation variation from three perspectives:translationvariation is practiced by the translator,for readers,and on the original.This paper contends that translation variation highlightstranslator subjectivity,provides valuable sources for the quest of virtues of master translators and the meaning of their lives,andindicates a possibility of the value of translation.Besides,with an emphasis on the promotion of intercultural communication,itcould also function as valuable theoretical sources of a professional code of ethics,and its values remain to be further explored un-der a broader framework.
