The vehicle monitor system has been developed for collecting on-road traffic data from GPS/GSM terminals carried by vehicles. This system has been f urther integrated with the engine management system of a vehicle to provide time -tagged data on GPS position and speed, distance traveled, acceleration etc. The se data which are handled within a GIS are gathered by vehicle instrument and tr ansferred by GMS network and Internet can be processed and queried after the dat a collection saved to a file for later analysis. The GIS provides a database man agement platform for the integration, display, and analysis of the data collecte d from GPS and vehicle instrument. So disadvantages of broadcasting station moni tor system such as narrow area, high cost, readily interference are avoided and real-time vehicle monitor is realized.
