The design of hardware and software of a data collector is introduced. Thus a simpler design method of embedded instruments based on Intel x86 hardware platform and Linux operating system is stated. The method is ease and feasible. It simplified and decreased the difficulty of hardware and software design. Mostly it is suitable for the situation of which the functions of instrument can be implemented by standard hardware and software modules. This data acquisition device is operating well in practical application.
