Environmental protection is of great importance in highway engineering. In this article, the authors point out that the environmental protection should be emphasized in the design, construction and utilization stages of highway engineering, gives some practical suggestions on the way of bids and the use of recycled materials, and also puts forward some issues denied in the current 'Design Specification of Highway Environmental Protection'.
