论中国近代文学的前现代性

On the Pre-Modernity of Modern Chinese Literature

中国近代文学具有与古代文学的循环时间观不同的线性时间观,具有科技层面和精神层面的现代动力意识,初步具有西方现代民主政治思想,而且近代文学作品生产具有自主性和商业性的特点,近代文学在近代中国市民社会中以报刊形式出现的传播与消费方式使其具有大众性的特点,这些都表明中国近代文学具有前现代性的特点,前现代性是现代性的萌芽,是现代性的一个有机组成部分。从这一角度出发,近代文学与现代文学各自的特点以及两者之间的承继关系就会显得比较清楚。

The modern Chinese literature, with its linear time consciousness, is different from circulating time consciousness of ancient Chinese literature, it has modern motive consciousness on technological level and spiritual level, and premier democracy thought of the Western. The production of modern literature has the characteristics of independence and commercialization. Due to its transmitting media and consuming methods by newspapers and magazines in Chinese civil society, modern Chinese literature cherishes feature of popularity. All of the features mentioned above demonstrate that modern Chinese literature shows up its respect of pre-modernity, which is regarded as the sprout of modernity, and thus be an organic component part of modernity. From this aspect, the characteristics of modern literature (1840-1919) and contemporary literature (1919-1949) and their inheriting relationship would be distinguished.
