An Analysis of the Political Ties between Chinese-Russian Border Regions in Recent Years

近年来 ,中俄毗邻地区政治关系发展势头良好 ,地方政府间的磋商与合作越来越密切并机制化 ,边界局势稳定 ,但仍存在界河三个岛屿归属和所谓中国“非法移民”问题。在俄罗斯远东地区 ,“非法移民”被人为夸大和炒作 ,所谓“中国威胁”论也有一定市场 ,不仅有着复杂的国内外政治背景 ,而且有其滋生的土壤——俄罗斯民族主义思潮。上述问题 ,只要双方正确认识和对待 。

In recent years the political ties between the Chinese-Russian border regions have witnessed a good momentum of development. Consultation and cooperation between local governments are getting closer, and mechanisms are being promoted. The boundary line situation is stable, but problems still exist. They include the jurisdiction of the three islands in the boundary river and the so-called 'illegal Chinese immigrants'issue. In the Russian Far East, the 'illegal immigrants' issue has been artificially exxaggerated and speculated upon. The so-called 'China threat' theory has a certain currency, too. These have not only a complicated political background at home and abroad, but also the Russian nationalist ideological trend as the soil for breeding. However, these problems can be properly settled, so long as both parties take a correct approachon them and handle them properly.
