对中西两部作品中编排相似的两个爱情故事进行比较,分析纽兰·阿切儿和贾宝玉的爱情悲剧的相同的成因,并以两个主人公不同的结局进行分析后我们发现,妥协在一定的时候未必不是一件好事。阿切儿一定程度上的妥协,最终他发现新的生活顺序也有它好的一面。对旧秩序的反抗并不要求象贾宝玉一样,以生命为代价,当一块远离尘寰的顽石,那是既可悲又可笑的举动。最佳的途径就是努力建立一个理想的社会。

Dream of Red Chamber and The Age of Innocence come from the eastern and the western culture respectively, and both of them develop their plots encircling similarly designed love stories. The causes of the tragedy of their love stories are almost the same, but due to the different choice of the two heroes in the final, two love stories have quite different endings. Jia Baoyu resisted the old system of the society at the cost of his life, but Newland Archer chose to compromise to a certain degree, and later he found the coming new system of the society also had its fine aspects.
