This paper argues that the theory of translatorial hexis recently developed by the British scholar David Charlston can account for certain decision-makings by translators of Chinese culture for Western audiences. It posits the hypothesis that a Chinese cultural honor-seeking bodily stance observable in certain translation strategies might be embodied in the translated text produced by translators of Chinese cultural identity seeking to interpret Chinese culture for Western audiences.A case study of American-Chinese scholar George Kin Leung’s English translation of Lu Xun’s A Q Zhengzhuan can substantiate the above hypothesis.Meanwhile,it is pointed out that the explanatory power of the theory of translatorial hexis is somewhat limited.
