从客居到永居——《大汉公报》诗歌中“家”的观念的变化(1914—1960)

From Sojourners to Settlers——Reflections on the Concept of Home in the Poems in The Chinese Times(1914-1960)

本文以加拿大华文报纸《大汉公报》在1914—1960年发表的诗歌为例,重点考察和分析在这段时间内加拿大华人对于家的观念从伤感的乡愁逐渐转化到拥抱新的家园的变化发展过程,探讨和寻求决定这些变化的社会和政治的原因,尤其是在极端种族歧视和剥削廉价劳动力的社会环境下,华人如何在加拿大发展和培育他们'家'的观念,如何在离散和多元文化观点之间调解,斡旋他们'家'的观念,辨析这些观念如何从文化的排斥转化到跨国界的多元文化整合的过程。本文将从乡愁,忍辱抗争和重新定位三个部分来分析、论述加拿大华人关于家园和家国观念。并由此来考察报纸作为华人社区联络的媒介,它在感导、影响加拿大华人的离散意念和文化价值观念的重要作用。

This article studies the diasporic Chinese newspaper The Chinese Times, it chooses the Literary Supplement of the newspaper as lens through which to analyze the Chinese community’s sense of home as revealed in the poetry printed in the newspaper during the years1914-1960. It focuses on the different and changing concept of home as reflected in the newspaper, which both fostered and transformed the ideas and cultural values of the Chinese diaspora. By probing the social and political reasons that brought about these changes, this article explores how under extreme racial discrimination and labour exploitation the Chinese in Canada developed and nurtured their ideas of home, how they negotiated their concept of "Home" between diasporic and multidimensional points of view, and how their views shifted from cultural exclusion to integration within transcultural diversity. The article will discuss Chinese diasporic home concept and national belonging under three titles: nostalgia, resistance, and integration.
