摘要
《还乡》中存在于艾敦荒原之上的三种地理意象,即'石南'意象、'火'的意象与'池塘'意象,幽微地传达了哈代矛盾而又复杂的心理。这三种意象与荒原阴郁沉闷、浑厚寥廓的整体形象有所不同,热烈或萧索、平静或躁动这两种同时存在的不同状态,与游苔莎曲折的人生经历和生命存在状态相契合,也暗示了她不可避免的悲剧结局。在这一部长篇巨著中地理意象因篇幅有限易被忽视,但是自然之物的象征意义和生命价值反映的作家的审美思想应当被予以重视,哈代创作转型时期的生死观也值得被关注。
There exists three kinds of geographical images on the Egdon Heath in The Return of the Native—namely the images of the Heath,the fire and the pond.They convey subtly the ambivalent and complicated psychological feelings of Hardy.These geographical images are different from the heath’s whole image which is less shining-eyed and vigorous boundless;the two different state—vehemence or desolation,serenity or disturbance—exist at the same time,which are in the line with Eustacia’s life experience and existence state,also imply an inevitable tragic ending.In such an epic novel,because of the text’s limitation,geographical images are easy to be ignored,but these nature objects’whose symbolic significance and life value reveal author’s aesthetic thoughts should be taken seriously;in the meantime,Hardy’s view to the life and death is worthy of attention.
