陈独秀的《敬告青年》在中国社会从古代向现代转型的过程中有开启时代、指导时代的意义。《敬告青年》准确概括了中国现代社会的精神内涵和伦理精髓,文章提出了六种价值观("六义"):"自主"、"进步"、"进取"、"世界"、"实利"和"科学",历史证明,这六种价值观实际上也是现代中国社会的最重要、最核心、最基本的价值观。陈独秀对中国社会从古代向现代的转型有开创性作用,他在五四时期所做的事堪称"伟业"。陈独秀所倡导的变革是思想上的根本革命,他对中国社会的影响也是精神层面的。

Informing the Youth by Chen Duxiu plays a leading and enlightening role in China's transformation from ancient to modern times. Informing the Youth has an accurate generalization of the spiritual connotation and ethical quintessence of Chinese modern society. It put forwards six values: autonomy, progress, enterprise, world, materialism and science, which have already been proved by history to be the most signifi cant, most primary and valuable values. Chen Duxiu opens a new times in tranforming China from ancient to modern, and what he has done in the period of May Fourth are great things. The revolution he proposed is essential and infl uential both in Chinese social and spiritual transformation.
