中西文化的别样理解——以《学衡》为中心的考察

A Different Understanding of Chinese and Western Culture: Based on Xue Heng

《学衡》是民国期刊史上一份独具特色的文化刊物,其所刊载的文章,传达出对于中西方文化的独特理解。《学衡》具有中正稳健的文化态度,对于中国传统文化,它既反对一味复古、守旧,也不同意全盘否定,而是主张昌明国粹,发扬精华;对于西方文明,主张立足于全面和深入的学术研究,形成精确的判断,择其精华。《学衡》基于新人文主义的立场,认为中西方古典文明是相契合的,应融会中西方文明的精华,建设中国的新文化。《学衡》坚持学术本位,其新文化观超越了中西体用之争,拥有一种别样的视角。

Xue Heng is a unique cultural journal in the journal history of the Republic of China with its essays having a special understanding of Chinese and western culture and its style being moderate and steady. The journal suggests an attitude to Chinese traditional culture of neither being blindly conservative and reverting to old ways nor being totally negative. Instead, it advocates to promote the quintessence of traditional culture. As for western culture, the journal suggests to make accurate judgement and utilize its essence based on a comprehensive and in-depth academic study. On the basis of new humanism, Xue Heng deems that the classic civilization of China corresponds to that of the West, so that we should combine the essence of these two civilizations to develop a new culture of China. Adhering to academic position, the cultural thoughts in Xue Heng transcend the dispute over the relationship between institution and technology in China and the West, thus demonstrating a quite different style from other journals in the same period.
