Zhang Zi ping had been in Japan studying for ten years and Japanese literature exerted great influence on his literary writing. During the May 4th Movement of new literature, Zhang Zi ping , from its peculiar writing angle, depicted in that period the depression and awakening of the youth, and their longing for true love and struggling for survival as well. The novels written by Zhang Zi ping in the early writing stage possessed the taste of romanticism and it belonged to the serious new literary works.
