模糊性是语言的本质特性之一 ,几乎存在于所有语言之中。 Joanna Channell主要讨论了三类模糊语言现象及其构成特点 :模糊附加词 ,模糊词语 ,模糊蕴含。由于人们经常使用模糊概念和表达模糊概念的模糊词语 ,并表达许多精确词语难以表达的信息。因此在翻译过程中只有借助语境正确理解模糊语言 ,才能准确地把握和再现源语的模糊蕴含 。

Vagueness is so common a phenomenon that it exists in almost all languages. Joanna Channell has mainly discussed three phenomena in her Vague Language: vague additives, vagueness by choice of vague words, and vagueness by implicature. As vague expressions have been used extensively, their interpretation has to be handled entirely within pragmatics. Therefore, pragmatic translation can be achieved only when the vague expressions are interpreted correctly and expressed exactly in the target language.
