The Implications of Restoring China Status of Contracting Party of GATT and China's Economic Development and Opening to the Outside World

关贸总协定作为全球最大的多边经济贸易组织,对于中国经济进一步改革开放与发展显得越来越重要,在一定的原则下重返总协定也就变得越来越迫切。但是,重返总协定不仅只是享有权利,也应承担相应的义务,因此,机遇与挑战并存。只有采取正确的对策措施,迎接挑战,才能抓住经济发展的机遇,推动中国经济迅速起飞。

GENERAL AGREEMENT OF TARIFFS AND TRADE is a mutilateral ecomomic andtrade organization under the United Nations and the restoration of China' s position in GATTaccording to certain principles is imperative and with growing importance to the deepening ofreform and furthering opening and economic development of China. However. the restora-tion of China' s position in GATT implies not only rights and privileges enjoyed therein butalso relevant duties and responsibilities; thus. both opportunities and challenges exist. Coun-termeasures should be taken to meet the challenges and gaining opportunities for economicdevelopment and bringing about China' speedy economic upgrading.
