The methods of user models development for Aspen Plus are discussed, and developing steps are briefly introduced in this paper. The main aim of this paper is to facilitate user to know the methods and steps to develop user models for Aspen Plus. By comparing the four methods for user models development supported by Aspen Plus, some conclusions can be obtained. First, the Fortran User Models and Excel User Models are easy to develop, but only fitting for development of simple user models. Second, the development of Aspen Custom Modeler models depends on the support of modeling tools, which limits its application scope. Third, the CAPE-OPEN COM User Models, which can be developed in the integrated development environment with the help of wizard, can be performed in any chemical simulation software supporting CAPE-OPEN. The CAPE-OPEN COM User Models is reasonably to be considered the most potential method for user models development.
