Changing Global Orders and Europe’s Role

部分人将美国和欧洲视为衰败中的国际行为体,与此相对比的是习近平治下的生机勃勃的中国。美国在政治和经济上的统治地位也许不再显而易见,但这是否意味着让中国接管舞台,或对广泛的全球自由秩序构成真正的威胁,仍存有争议。必须积极看待中国与国际社会接触的努力和对一系列全球性热点的领导作用,这并不代表北京在与西方竞争规则性权力。历史远未终结,自由秩序已死的流言实在太过夸张。

The United States and Europe have been perceived as deteriorating international actors,contrasts with China as the new force under its all-powerful leader,Xi Jinping.The political and economic dominance of the US may no longer be evident,but it is debatable whether this has set the stage for a Chinese takeover,or whether the broader global liberal order itself is truly threatened.Whilst Chinese efforts to engage with the international community and to lead in an array of global concerns can only be viewed positively,this does not mean that Beijing and the West are competing normative powers.We are far from the end of history and it would be a mischaracterization to say that the established order is on the brink of collapse.
