the Chinese people is elated by the return of Hong Kong to the motherland. Hong Kong, in the international envinonment of peace and development and the development process of the motherland's reform and opening, will further play its unique role in the economic development of China, Asia and even the world with its information, geographic and cultural advantages. There are vast prospects for the collaboration between Hong Kong and thd mainland and the cooperation between Chinese Academy of Sciences and the universities,industrial sector and other organizations in Hong Kong.
